Following unprecedented pressure from activists—including you!—Danaher announced on September 19, 2023 that they would be selling the GeneXpert tuberculosis tests at cost, which they claim is $7.97 per test. The Global Fund estimates that this price reduction will save $32 million annually, potentially saving millions of lives through adequate access to easy, quick and reliable diagnostics.
In the name of transparency, Danaher also committed to commissioning an independent, annual audit of the production cost and pricing structure and promised to publish the results. Holding Danaher accountable for their claim of $7.97 per test is important because any additional cost leads to preventable deaths. Over a year later, Danaher has not fulfilled their commitment to publish the results of their audit.
