Partnering with People: Compassion and the End of Tuberculosis

About the Talk

Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the most common human pathogens, but the social construction of the disease insists on making it a problem of "others". Stigma and discrimination are rampant when it comes to TB, including among the providers and policy makers charged with stopping TB. An end to this "othering" is the only way to end TB, and this will best be accomplished through power-sharing and partnership with people who are impacted by TB. This talk will present some examples of true partnership in approaches to drug-resistant TB and review principles for forging a new solidarity moving forward.
